The 2010 Vampdaddy Halloween Post, Part 2

October 31, 2010

For “Part 1”, visit my other blog, www.vampdaddy.com .

RELEASE YOUR INNER GOTH THIS HALLOWEEN!

With the leaves falling, our thoughts here at Music on a Stick turn to things dressed in black — and perhaps wearing white face. Feast your ears on the horror of good music for halloween!

Pulled to Bits – Siouxsie and the Banshees

A little cannibalism to get us started….Yummy.

Heavy in your Arms – Florence + the Machine

Forget for a moment that this song is from the soundtrack of “that movie” about a girl torn between a vampire and some other guy’s chest;  Florence makes me want to wear black more often (if that’s even possible).

Backstabber – Dresden Dolls

Someday I will do my really big Amanda Palmer Post, where I will share with you my inner thoughts on my current muse — at least before Jungalero roles his eyes and hits me. In the meantime — a little white face paint, some painted-on eyebrows, and a drummer from my home state who looks better in a dress than I ever did — and you have The Dresden Dolls, who I am tickled to be seeing this coming week on their 10 Year Bandiversary Reunion Tour. Punk Cabaret is Freedom, Mo-Fos.

(warning – video is NSFW, and yet brilliant)

Love Song for a Vampire – Annie Lennox

I wonder if she’ll re-release this as a bonus track on her upcoming Christmas Album

Bella Lugosi’s Dead – Trent Reznor, Peter Murphy and TV on the Radio

Because men can be goth too…

Chilling! Cannibalism, knife play, playing dead, surviving heroin… not in that order.
I’m new to Florence and the Machines. It strikes a nice balance between Siouxie and the Banshees and Concrete Blonde, especially when she gets-a-wailing. As for Siouxie: has she ever covered White Rabbit or some other Grace Slick anthem? I close my eyes and the two of ’em are indistinguishable. Well, not quite, but you get the idea. In the Dresden Dolls video I LOVE when he reads aloud in shock: “TOMMY LEE??!!”… LOL!
