In Memorium

July 26, 2011

This weekend the Patron Saint of this blog, Terry Hutchison, passed away. Our Blog title comes directly from his famous “Supremes on a Stick” which were a black and white cutout of Motown’s Supremes glued to the top of a fat popsicle stick; the Supremes on a Stick could be waved around like a fan or an auction paddle but most effectively could be employed as instant back-up singers for an impromptu performance.
Many songs remind me of him but perhaps one that is pulling me most right now is by a diva he often raved about. Chaka:

and Patti/Nona/Sarah (Gawd! You can really see how Terry channeled Patti, she’s magnificent):

and…Aretha

Wow, you can really see how much these three women influenced him…and how he made it his own. A fitting tribute. Rest in peace,
    Terry.

Terry was a dear and extremely close friend of mine. I lived in San Francisco during the years that he did the cabaret circut and was at nearly every performance that he gave. He was an incredible talent, but more importantly to me he was an incredible friend. There is a place in my heart that will never be filled. I would not want it to be. Bear Woman
