R.I.P. Adam Yauch

May 5, 2012

The Beastie Boys have earned their rightful place in the rap/hip hop world, while being real menschs at the same time. The “fight for your right to party” that launched their career was a joke, and the Boys never lost their sense of humor; it’s what made them continue to be entertaining in their output all these years. My best wishes go out to Adam’s family and the rest of the Beasties. Such an awful loss.

Here are some of my favorite tracks by them in brief tribute.

“So Whatcha Want”

The first Beasties track I went for in my iTunes library today while making breakfast. The groove is just so fantastically gritty and funky.

“Hey Ladies”

Paul’s Boutique is the cornerstone of the Beastie’s recorded legacy, and with perennials such as this classic single it’s easy to see why. A stone cold classic, and a gateway to many different musical threads.

“Sabotage”

The Boys’ most enduring video, a trendsetting masterpiece.

Thanks for sharing your genius with us, Adam.
